This dude was terrifying, and you genuinely had nightmares about him. Thanks, Onida.

Your birthday = a reason to wear your nicest outfit to school and hand out candy to everyone.
Power cuts were a glorious time when you were exempt from doing homework and had no choice but to go outside and play in the dark.

        1. The Man from Uncle. Strangely, I always wanted to be the Russian one.
I used to also live by the East Coast mainline railway in the days of steam. Used to love standing on a bridge and being smothered in swirling smoke as express trains went under.

        3. In winter, after a snowfall, the night would be lit with a sparkling pink blanket of snow. Kids all over the neighborhood would congregate with sleds and trays and cookie sheets and trudged up the hill to sled ride like the wind! Then Mom would make snow cream and hot chocolate to warm our frozen limbs 🙂 Thanks for sharing your great memories and breathing life into childhood again!

        4. This post brought back many good memories….but my favorite was waking up on a cold winter morning, dreading the walk to school, and then realizing with a stab of joy that it was actually Saturday!

        5. I like falling asleep BEHIND the couch. The adults talking gave me a sense of comfort and safety. If I staid very still but was still awake, I’d find out all sorts of adulty gossip. No one could find me….no one being the other brats may mom and dad created to hector and pester me all my life. Oldest kids got it good and to it bad too. I raised my sisters and brother cuz my mother went nutz having 4 kids in 5 years; so getting away from them for a little while was always a pleasure.

And if I fell asleep deep enough; I could teleport too. ~~dru~~
